Cycling Tour

The cycling tour is a special highlight.  We will ride through the whole of Bad Godesberg, about 14 kms.  Starting in the villa district, with its wonderful Art Nouveau houses, the tour takes us through  Plittersdorf to the meadows near the river where the group will see the Syrian Embassy building, which remains empty.  Passing through the former American compound, locally referred to “Klein Amerika” (Little America) we reach the Stimson Memorial Chapel on Kennedy Allee. Further stops will be the Apostolic Nunciature (the embassy of the Vatican) , the former South African embassy and the Portugese ambassador’s residence on Dollendorfer Street.

We continue along the river bank past the former residences of the United Kingdom, Italy, the USA and  Saudi Arabia to the Villa Camphausen where South Korea had its residence. The return journey takes us through Mehlem and past the site of the former Turkish embassy (The building itself was demolished a few years ago and the site has since been re-developed ) as well as the South African embassy residence.   Following that, we will cycle through Deichmanns Aue and hear about the former embassy of the USA, which today houses the Federal Ministry for Food and Agriculture .  The final loop takes us through the Rüngsdorf Diplomatic District back to the train station.  Roland Street in Rüngsdorf in particular offers a view of numerous former embassy residences.
